The Silver Watch

In a dusty corner of an old antique shop, Lucas found a silver pocket watch. It was covered in strange engravings of suns and moons.

The shopkeeper, a thin man with very long fingers, told him that the watch didn't belong to any specific era. He sold it for a very low price.

When Lucas arrived home, he cleaned the silver surface until it shined. Curiously, the watch was not ticking, even though it looked perfect.

He noticed a small golden button on the side. Without thinking, he pressed it. Suddenly, the birds outside the window stopped flying mid-air.

Everything was frozen. A cup of coffee was tipped over on the table, but the liquid was suspended in the air like a brown sculpture.

Lucas walked out into the street. The cars were silent, and people were like statues on the sidewalk. He felt like the only living person in the world.

He walked through the park, enjoying the absolute silence. He could see individual droplets of water from a fountain hanging like diamonds.

However, after an hour, he started to feel lonely. The world was beautiful but cold without the movement of life and the sound of voices.

He pressed the golden button again. Instantly, the world exploded with noise and motion. The birds continued their flight and the coffee hit the floor.

Lucas put the watch in a drawer and locked it. He realized that time is precious precisely because it never stops for anyone.
